German media campaign for jailed reporters in Iran

BERLIN — German media launched an advertising campaign urging the release of two journalists detained in Iran three months ago in connection with a highly publicized stoning case.
Three major German newspapers on Sunday printed full-page ads calling for "freedom for the two reporters detained in Iran."
Media watchdog Reporters Without Borders and German journalism and editor associations said the campaign will feature ads in all major German newspapers and weekly news magazines.
The ad said "the quest for truth is not a crime. Journalists' curiosity is the foundation of freedom of the press."
The German journalists, who had entered Iran on tourist visas, were arrested in October while interviewing the son and lawyer of a woman who was sentenced to death by stoning for adultery.
