Hamas: Schalit to be freed only through prisoner deal

A Hamas official in the Gaza Strip, Khalil al-Hayya, said that the release of captured soldier Gilad Schalit can only be secured if Israel releases Palestinian prisoners, at a press conference Saturday.

He told reporters: "The occupation knows very well that the release of Schalit will not come about without a deal to release Palestinian prisoners." Addressing clashes in the strip over the weekend, he added, "We are not scared by the Israeli threats. If the IDF tries to enter the [Gaza] Strip, the resistance will oppose it in every possible way."
