Israel Police arrested two suspects after Amos Sa'ar, a security officer in the Jerusalem District Court Guard was killed in a stabbing in the Har Homa neighborhood of Jerusalem on Wednesday. One of those arrested was a 70-year-old neighbor of the officer.
The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court extended the arrest of the suspect by 11 days, whereas the neighbor, who is suspected of assisting murder, was extended by 5 days. The neighbor reportedly hosted the suspect the night before the stabbing occurred.
The motivation of the stabbing is currently undetermined, but, according to Israeli media, it appears that the stabbing occurred after a squabble between neighbors and wasn't related to Sa'ar's position.
Sa'ar was appointed as the security officer of the Supreme Court in 1995 and served in that role until today, according to The Judicial Authority.
Sa'ar was found in a building in the neighborhood in serious condition on Wednesday and was transferred to Shaarei Tzedek Hospital in critical condition where he later died after attempts to save his life.
Sa'ar's widow, Orly, told Channel 13 News on Thursday that Amos fell victim to a neighbor who harassed them and "ruined our family."
"The neighbor would knock loudly on the door and threaten all our lives, that he would burn us in the home," said Orli. "Three days ago, he threatened Amos's life and said to him that he would kill him and cause him to die. Amos said to him 'I'm asking you to walk away.' Amos told me: 'Orli, he's mentally ill,' he had compassion for him."
Orli stressed that this wasn't a "squabble between neighbors. This began a year ago, when we had a dog and this bothered him. He would tell us things about the dog when he couldn't hear the barking. A year ago, I filed a complaint with the police, he really went too far. He published pictures of us and posted them to Facebook. They brought me in for questioning and the investigators came to his house, questioned him and closed the case. He walked the streets."
