In a meeting with Likud Knesset members on Sunday, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stressed the importance of unity within the party and explained that the building moratorium was meant to defend Israel's vital interests.
"It is possible to say that we are going to disband the settlements and that there is a need to disband the Likud. But it must be understood that the meaning [of the construction freeze] is exactly the opposite, and therefore Likud unity is so important," said the prime minister.
"This is a very difficult step, for me and all the Likud ministers, but the bottom line is this is a one-time move and for a limited time, that defends the most important interests of the State of Israel," Netanyahu explained.
