Obama chooses first woman Secret Service director

WASHINGTON - US President Barack Obama has chosen veteran secret service agent Julia Pierson as Secret Service director, the first woman to head the agency that protects the president, two US officials told Reuters.
Pierson has been chief of staff at the agency. The Secret Service last year became embroiled in a scandal involving employees taking prostitutes to their hotel rooms in Colombia ahead of Obama's visit to that country.
