Israel on Tuesday was considering a request from the Palestinian Authority to permit hundreds of Palestinians who live in Libya to move to the West Bank amid growing violence in the North African country.

The request was submitted to the office of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) by PA Civil Affairs Minister Hussein a-Sheikh on Tuesday.

The request did not specify the number of people in question but defense officials said it was likely around several hundred people. Some estimates have put around 20,000 Palestinians in Libya. The officials said that if the request is approved, the Palestinians would need to be approved individually by the relevant Israeli security authorities.
