After Hamas and Israel issued swift denials to a report by the Palestinian Ma'an news agency of Gilad Schalit's imminent transfer to Egypt, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stressed the government's commitment to securing the captured IDF soldier's release.
"I have given the order for an integrated effort of all branches of the Israeli government," Netanyahu said during his visit to Rome. "We are committed to bringing him back safe and sound, and are making every effort in various fields. But for the moment, I don't believe taking about Gilad's release helps. It's just not the right thing to do."
