President Shimon Peres doesn't expect recent "harmful" bills raised in the Knesset to pass by a majority. In an interview with CNN's Richard Quest at the Globes Business Conference in Tel Aviv, the president explained that he doesn't believe Israel can be "Jewish and not democratic."

Israel recently came under attack from British and American officials over a controversial bill raised in the Knesset that would limit foreign funding of NGOs.

"Democracy nowadays is a bit more complicated because it’s not only the right to be equal," Peres said, "but the equal right to be different...I think this country will be democratic. Recently unfortunately, we introduced some laws which are not necessarily exactly in the line of democracy. I don’t think they help, I noticed even the prime minister was against it.”
