Police are maintaining a beefed up presence in the Galillee village of Illut on Tuesday following violent clashes between two feuding families, which involved exchanges of gunfire on Monday evening.

A home in the neighboring village of Shimshit was struck by a bullet during the exchange, and officers who arrived in Illut to restore public order were fired on, police said.

No injuries were reported in the incident. Eight suspects were arrested early on Tuesday morning on suspicion of being involved in the disturbances.

Police were also working with village elders in a bid to restore calm.
