Prime Minister Netanyahu to meet with President Rivlin, request more time to form government

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will hold an official meeting with President Reuven Rivlin at his residence on Monday in order to request additional time to form a coalition government, according to an official statement from the president's office.
The president, according to the Basic Law, is able to extend the period by which a government must be created by only 14 days after the initial 28 days after the election end.
Netanyahu, who had won 30 seats in last month's election, compared to his main rival, the Zionist Union's 24 seats, has been involved in negotiations with several parties over the formation of a coalition, but has yet to create the right-wing, nationalist government which he had sought to form.
