Rabbi Stav, Tzohar: We hope new chief rabbis make significant changes to the Rabbinate

Losing Ashkenazi chief rabbi candidate David Stav and his Tzohar Rabbinical Organization congratulated the winners of the chief rabbi race, Rabbi David Lau and Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef on Wednesday.

"We express to both elected rabbis our best wishes and that they should merit to make significant changes to the Rabbinate so that it will reflect a renewed commitment to the needs of all the people of Israel- that very public which the Rabbinate was created to serve," a statement from Rabbi Stav and Tzohar read.

"On this occasion, Tzohar again commits itself to partnering with the elected rabbis in all relevant areas on behalf of promoting a united Jewish future for the State of Israel. In addition, Tzohar commits itself to all the people of Israel and in particular the Zionist streams that supported Rabbi Stav represented by many millions of Israelis, in stating that we will continue to be a resource for that population by defending against extremism and separatism which threatens to divide our society," the statement added.

Tzohar vowed to "continue to work to unite the Jewish people of Israel and throughout the world through commitment to halacha and love for all Jews and do everything possible to prevent further division and disharmony."
