Report: Iran's 'active deterrence' to thwart foreign attack

Iran's "active deterrence" defense doctrine is designed to put off foreign provocations with the use of conventional weapons, according to Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi, Press TV reported Tuesday.
"Our deterrence is based on conventional weapons and appropriate equipment, part of which will be used for offense, but we will not take pre-emptive measures," General Vahidi said in a televised interview late Monday.
The Iranian minister further criticized the presence of foreign forces in the region, saying such presence is the cause of insecurity and violence in the Middle East region.
