Report: Medvedev would not challenge Putin in 2012 election

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev Monday said that he would not want to face Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in the 2012 presidential elections, the British newspaper the Daily Telegraph reported.
Medevedev said he did not want a "battle between close forces," according to the Daily Telegraph.
Putin was barred by the Russian constitution from running for a third consecutive term as president in 2008, but would be eligible to run again for the office in 2012.
Putin still has not made it clear whether he intends to run in the next election.
