KABUL, Afghanistan — An Afghan government spokesman says a militant rocket attack in eastern Afghanistan has killed two civilians.

Ismail Jahangir, spokesman for the governor of Ghazni province, says rockets fired by insurgents hit Monday afternoon in Andar district, killing two Afghan civilians and wounding six others. The United Nations says insurgents are responsible for most civilian deaths and injuries as the Afghan war drags on. However, noncombatants are also killed in NATO military operations, which is a major source of contention between the alliance and Afghanistan's government.

Thursday marks the ninth anniversary of the US-led invasion of Afghanistan, launched in response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States.
