PARIS — French President Nicolas Sarkozy has met with Mideast envoy Tony Blair in Paris to discuss France's vision of how to support the Middle East peace process.

Sarkozy will play host this month to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. France wants European and Mediterranean countries to play a more active role in Middle East peace talks.

Sarkozy's office said his efforts have the backing of the former British Prime Minister. The two men spoke for an hour Monday.
