Shas will appeal new army exemption rules for girls

Following the Ministerial Committee on Legislation's decision to tighten the criteria under which women can be granted military exemptions on religious grounds, Shas issued a statement saying that the faction would appeal the changes. The appeal will force the government to further discuss the issue.
Shas had opposed the bill.
The regulations proposed by MK Israel Hasson (Kadima), would require girls to prove they have attended a religious educational institution for at least two years and must receive approval by the same institution.
