Shin Bet asks for access to banking system

The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) approached Israeli banks with a request to connect to their information systems, according to Monday morning reports.
The purpose of the request was to protect against the possibility of unauthorized electronic attacks or penetrations. The banking system has expressed concerns about privacy and a loss of customer confidence.
Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer has not expressed any opposition to the plan.
The banks are expected to relay their reply to the Shin Bet in the next two months.
