Turkel Committee approves Gantz appointment

February 10, 2011 04:02

The Turkel Committee approved the appointment of Gen. Benny Gantz as the new IDF chief of general staff on Wednesday.

Convening Tuesday and Wednesday the committee heard testimonies from Defense Minister Ehud Barak, outgoing Chief of General Staff Gabi Ashkenazi. Gabi Ashkenazi, and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

The committee opinion referred to three reservations about the appointment of Gantz: his involvement in the incident which killed soldier Medhat Joseph at Joseph's tomb, building without permits at his home in Rosh Ha'ain, and the claims that he received benefits from changing residence to the north as Northern commander.
