An American soldier has been killed by a roadside blast in Diyala province north of Iraq, the US military said Wednesday.

In a statement, the military said the death of the soldier from US Division-North was under investigation.

The name of the deceased soldier was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The death raises to at least 4,394 the number of US military personnel who have died in Iraq since the war began in March 2003. That's according to an Associated Press count.a
