The Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano has declared the 1980 film The Blues Brothers a recommended film for Catholics on Sunday.

The comedy, starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, features two brothers who say they're "on a mission from God." The pair battle police, country fans and neo-Nazis to save a Catholic orphanage in Chicago where they grew up.

Aykroyd told the New York Post that "as a former altar boy, but a somewhat lapsed Catholic, I was delighted with the endorsement."

The movie, which L'Osservatore called "incredibly shrewd," joins The Passion of the Christ and The Ten Commandments, amongst others, on the Vatican-recommended film list.
