Yesha Council Chairman Dani Dayan on Tuesday chastised President Shimon Peres for calling West Bank settlement a danger to Israel and its Jewish character.

"The only danger that the State of Israel faces as a Jewish state is weakening the belief in our historic rights to our land," Dayan said.

"It is astounding that the president chose to cast his defeatist political predictions, of all places, at a commemoration for Theodore Hertzl, who is a symbol of devotion to vision in the face of naysayers."
