Meretz MKs and party activists on Tuesday toured the Ulpana neighborhood of Beit El to protest against what they view as a disregard for a Supreme Court decision to demolish illegal structures in the area.
The High Court of Justice had ordered the evacuation of the 30 homes in the West Bank outpost by May 1 because they were built on land classified as private Palestinian property, but on Sunday granted a state appeal to postpone the demolition for 60 days.
The MKs had coordinated their visit earlier in the week with relevant police authorities, but approximately forty party activists arrived without receiving permission.
Police initially denied entry to the activists, but after around ten minutes, upon receiving guarantees from the MKs that they would not try to disrupt public order, the entire group was allowed entry.
The MKs and activists stayed in the contentious neighborhood for around 20 minutes, taking photos and discussing the political situation.
Meretz MK Zehava Gal-On said: "Just a few meters from us there is a blatant illegality and a disregard for the High Court of Justice. It would be better for the police invest its forces in the evacuation of the houses, as per the order of the High Court, instead of stopping Meretz activists who have come to participate in protest."
The MKs and activists left the area without incident.
