Germany's top public health authority confirmed Friday the first case of swine flu transmission within the country.
Robert Koch Institute president Joerg Hacker said a 42-year-old Bavarian woman working as a nurse was infected after coming into contact with one of the three people previously confirmed to have swine flu in Germany.
Local authorities in Landshut, north of Munich, said the nurse contracted the virus while working with a 37-year-old man who had recently traveled to Mexico, and she was being treated at a Regensburg hospital.
The Health Ministry said in a statement that the nurse has already made a full recovery.
Bavarian health authorities, meanwhile, confirmed that a separate patient had tested positive for the virus in the town of Feising, raising the total to five cases across Germany. No further details were available on the Feising case.
