Four people were killed and three injured within 24 hours in road accidents throughout the country. A man was seriously injured and two others lightly hurt Thursday in a collision between a car and a truck near Migdal Ha'emek. Police said the accident occurred after the car swerved from its lane and crashed head-on into the truck in the opposite lane. Two of the casualties were taken to Ha'emek Hospital in Afula, and one was evacuated to Rambam Hospital in Haifa. Meanwhile, Glilot Police arrested a 21-year-old Tira resident in Herzliya on Thursday after he allegedly tried to cross intersections at red lights and attempted to run over police officers who demanded he pull over on the city's Jerusalem Street. Police said the man smelled of alcohol. The suspect was brought before the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court for a remand extension hearing later Thursday. On Wednesday night, three people were killed in a collision between a car and a truck in the Center, near Beit Yanai. The car apparently swerved and smashed into the back of the truck, which was parked by the roadside to unload merchandise. As a result, the car's roof was torn off and the three passengers sustained head injuries. Two of them were killed instantly, while the third died of his injuries shortly afterward. The truck driver managed to jump into a ditch by the side of the road before the car struck. Police were investigating the incident. Earlier Wednesday evening, a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run near the entrance to Tira. The man was taken to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba, where he succumbed to his injuries.
