Paramedics said they found the woman lying on the ground unconscious and bleeding profusely from stab wounds to the chest.
Earlier, neighbors alerted emergency services to a domestic violence incident in Rishon Lezion's Ramat Eliyahu district.
Officers broke into the apartment and found the woman injured. Her husband had sustained light injuries in an apparent attempt to harm himself. He was too intoxicated for questioning, police said, and after receiving treatment by paramedics on the scene, the man was arrested on suspicion of the attack.
The couple had made aliya from Ethiopia several years ago.
Police say they were unaware of previous domestic violence incident involving the couple.
