Games We Play - Softball: Warriors crush Labs, 20-5

The Cleantech Warriors stormed to their second victory of the week on Friday (improving to 2-1), by crushing the Late Nite Labs 20-5 at Gezer. The Warriors fell behind early 3-0 in the first, but killed a Lab rally when centerfielder Aron Heller nailed a Lab runner at the plate to end the inning. Third baseman Nisan Hirsh led off the second with a triple, sparking a six-run inning for the Warriors. Behind the stellar pitching of Avi Dzik, who secured his second victory of the young season and also went four for five on the day, the Warriors would never relinquish the lead again. Shortstop Joe Federman led the offensive barrage, going three for five with five RBIs. Hirsh, Josh Skarf and Nosson Mandel each contributed three hits a piece. Every single player in the 10-man lineup got a hit and scored. The victory followed another impressive performance on Tuesday by the first year club, when they beat BSST 24-6. The Warriors stormed out of the gates, scoring 15 runs before the Beer Sheva squad even had a chance to get to the plate. Again, every single player scored. Outfielder Dave Fain, playing with an injured left hand, led the charge with a pair of homers and seven RBI's and cleanup hitter Larry Melzer also went yard and hit three-for-three with four RBI's for the night. The Warriors were humbled in their opener against RiseHi, losing 12-0, but rebounded strong to head into their bye-week with a strong 2-1 record. "I'm really proud of the boys. They took their licks in the opener but showed some real guts and resiliency to fight back the way they did," said manager Aron Heller. In the Amateur Softball in Israel, Rise Hi defeated Table to Table 10-4 and moved into first place with a 2-0 record. For Rise Hi Amiad Harow had two hits and scored two runs Moshe Hamburg had two hits, Alan Tover drove in two runs with a bases loaded single and rookies Sammy Tover and Itamar Bernstein played solid defense at shortstop and left field respectively. Ed Harow picked up the win on the mound.
