Sheldon Gary Adelson is an American businessman, entrepreneur and philanthropist.
His business career spans more than five decades and has included creating and developing more than 50 different companies.
He is the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, a leading global developer of destination properties which owns The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino and the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The company has several resorts in the US as well as in Asia, where it owns additional casino hotel resorts.
Adelson also owns the Hebrew-language free daily newspaper Israel Hayom which was founded in the summer of 2007.
Adelson and his wife, Dr. Miriam Adelson have donated to a variety of charitable causes, and have founded the Adelson Foundation, a private charity headquartered in Los Angeles.
Adelson has earned multiple honorary degrees and has guest lectured at various universities.

The award was established by former US president John F. Kennedy and complements the nation’s highest military award, the Medal of Honor.

Adelson reportedly pledged to donate $100 million to Republican candidate Donald Trump, and his support could be key in swaying the US presidential race.
The 81-year-old Jewish casino magnate played a heavy role in the last presidential election, donating over $100 million.

Adelson's money will be going to a superPAC called Future 45, which has in recent weeks run anti-Clinton ads comparing Clinton to former President Richard Nixon.

Adelson supposedly told Trump he was committed to his campaign, but urged the candidate to demonstrate "a measure of humility."
Adelson, a casino magnate and major backer of pro-Israel causes, said he is convinced Trump will be a “tremendous president when it comes to the safety and security of Israel,” the AP reports.
