Israel to grant NIS 8 million to farmers near Gaza border

Israel will invest NIS 8 million to farmers near the Gaza border to encourage early harvesting, according to Ynet on Wednesday.The Ministry of Agriculture, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Finance agreed on this grant in order to prevent fires near the border. The government hopes this will incentive farmers to reap their harvest before the crops dry up and possibly become fuel for fire.Lately the Gaza border communities have been bombarded with rockets, with over 60 rockets fired from Gaza on Monday night alone. Additionally the Gaza border fields have been continually terrorized by incendiary kites and balloons that destroy and burn crops and land.“I am glad that broad national consideration and support for farmers and residents of the Gaza envelope has exceeded the narrow discretion of the Budget Division of the Ministry of Finance” MK Eytan Broshi said in response to the grantIn October, approximately six months after the plight of incendiary devices began, half of the forests near Gaza were burned by balloons, kites, and Molotov cocktails, according to a Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF) report.
