Yesh Din: Agreement between gov’t and Amona residents is illegal
If plot 38 is determined not to be absentee, Sunday’s agreement could be scuttled.

The agreement between the government and Amona residents to move 24 families to a hilltop near the West Bank outpost is illegal, the Yesh Din NGO said on Sunday.“The government cannot legally relocate the families to the plot of land mentioned in the agreement because it is not absentee [land],” said Gilad Grossman, a Yesh Din spokesman.The government holds that the aforementioned plot of land, also known as “plot 38,” is “absentee,” meaning its owners are unknown.But Grossman said that “a local Palestinian contacted us, saying that he owns the land where the government wants to relocate the settlers. We checked his claim and determined it is valid.”If plot 38 is determined not to be absentee, Sunday’s agreement could be scuttled.Yesh Din informed the Civil Administration of the Palestinian claim on Sunday, and plans to oppose the agreement to relocate the families to plot 38 in court.Bayit Yehudi MK Moti Yogev, a member of the government coalition, responded to Yesh Din’s claim, saying that he does not know with certainty if plot 38 is absentee.However, Yogev said he believes that parts of plot 38 are absentee, and that “the government intends to relocate the families to those parts.”
