Emanuel Gat Dance Company 3For2007 HotDance Suzanne Dellal August 1 Without a doubt, Emanuel Gat is still one of the most intriguing dancers around, and it was good to see him dance again in this triple bill called 3For2007. Dancers Avital Mano and Roi Assaf opened with a short duet which deployed soft flowing movement based on a physical dialogue with oscillating dynamics. The last and longest work was choreographed for a group of eight, who performed Gat's vocabulary with great dedication. With swift focal point changes and well-crafted complex compositions, the ensemble's work was a bit muddled and probably under-rehearsed. Since this creation is a plotless dance without lofty theories, theatrics, props, sets or costumes, the dancers had to rely on their energy and focus to keep them tuned in every second on stage. This was missing. Looking back, Gat's most impressive works were solos, duets and trios where he himself danced. When Gat dances, he brings to stage unique performance qualities based on instinct, and his perfect timing seems to be innate. Alone on stage - in his solo My Favorite Things set to tune by John Coltrane - Gat was totally immersed in each moment on stage. With precision and attentiveness, he secreted just the right amount of energy needed for each move. Like a contained volcano, Gat always seemed to have hidden torrents inside. Some might call it charisma.
