Ehud Olmert reportedly came up with the title for the Hollywood hit Pretty Woman. Israel's prime minister-elect was a Knesset member when he helped his friend, film producer Arnon Milchan, choose golden oldie "Pretty Woman," as the title song for the 1990 romantic comedy, Yediot Aharonot reported. The daily did not cite sources but its reporter, Yair Lapid, is a former Milchan protege. According to Yediot, one of the film-makers at first balked at the proposed title, calling it "too cutesy." - JTARamat Gan exhibits 'reconciliation' art
A new exhibit called "Offering Reconciliation" is set to take place at the Museum of Israeli Art in Ramat Gan between May 6 and 16. The project brings the concept of reconciliation to the public through art.
The exhibit was initiated by the Bereaved Families Forum for Reconciliation, Tolerance and Peace to spread the vision of reconciliation and tolerance among Israelis and Palestinians. Among the 135 artists (painters, sculptors and photographers) taking part are Menashe Kadishman, Sigalit Landau, Tsibi Geva, David Tartakover, David Rubinger, Usama Za'tar, Hanan Abu Hussein, Jamal Huda and Aliza Olmert (the wife of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert). The artists were all given ceramic bowls with the heading of "offering reconciliation." Each has interpreted the commission in his own way. The Bereaved Families Forum includes hundreds of Israeli and Palestinian bereaved families who hope to prevent further bereavement among both peoples. There will be another Italian jazz mini-invasion on Friday when pianist Stefano Battaglia heads a quartet at the Tel Aviv Opera House with bass player Roberto Bonati, percussionist Roberto Dani and vocalist Diana Torto. Over the past four or five years there have been a growing number of concerts by jazz artists from Italy, with Dani alone having performed here on four previous occasions. This will be Battaglia's first visit here after his Israeli debut at the 2003 Tel Aviv Jazz Festival.
Like many of his compatriot professional colleagues, 40-year-old Battaglia started out as a classical musician and appeared at festivals all over Europe, specializing both in baroque and contemporary music. He began exploring the possibilities offered by the jazz idiom in his early twenties and soon hooked up with stalwarts of the genre such as American bassist Steve Swallow, British-Canadian trumpeter Kenny Wheeler and veteran saxophonist Lee Konitz. Battaglia has over 20 recordings to his name as leader and has participated in over 60 all told.
The Tel Aviv concert program will include original works by the pianist with the second half focusing on an intriguing synergy and dynamic between Battaglia and Torto.
