The popular liturgical series of the Israeli Opera and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra continues with a concert featuring Mozart's Requiem, to be performed under the baton of Omer Wellber, the conductor in residence of the Israeli Opera and the musical director of the Ra'anana Symphonette Orchestra.
Wellber, who chose to open the concert with Mozart's first symphony, said the chronological progression should be instructive. "It will be very interesting," he remarked, "to see how Mozart developed as a composer since writing his first symphony and until reaching the 'Requiem.'"
The soloists will be soprano Hila Baggio, mezzo soprano Shira Raz, bass-baritone Vladimir Braun (all three of whom are also set to perform in the much-anticipated opera The Child Dreams ) and tenor Felix Livshitz. They will be joined by the Kibbutz Arzi and Adi choirs, conducted by Yuval Ben Ozer.
The concerts take place on January 19 at the Henry Crown Concert Hall at the Jerusalem Theater and on January 21 at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center.
