'Abbas studying Mitchell's plan to launch low-level talks'

A US proposal to renew peace talks, handed overby US Mideast envoy George Mitchell on his recent visit to the region,is being studied by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas,according to Palestinian officials quoted in a Reuters report Monday.

Theplan would see negotiations start at a lower level, before full-scaleare launched between Israeli and Palestinian leaders, according to thesource.

Other Palestinian officials quoted in the Reuters report saidthat Mitchell had suggested "confidence building measures" to improveliving conditions in the West Bank.
