Aharonovitch planning 1 number for police, firefighters

Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch is planning to introduce one emergency number that will allow the public to access police or firefighters.
Aharnovitch unveiled the plans during a meeting with journalists in Jerusalem on Wednesday.
The change comes after the Israel Fire Service was placed under the auspices of the Public Security Ministry, which is also responsible for the Israel Police.
The Magen David Adom ambulance service may also eventually join the single number.
Aharnovitch expressed disappointment over the government's failure to increase the average salary of police officers, which is 5,000 shekels a month. He described the low pay as "embarrassing," adding that officers work non-stop in exchange for "this meager salary."
