A gunfight erupted in Jenin between IDF soldiers and Palestinian gunmen when Israeli forces entered the city to arrest a senior member of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Palestinian media reported.
A Islamic Jihad terrorist, 28-year-old Farouk Salama, was killed in the exchange of fire, according to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement. The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that one other Palestinian was killed and three others were injured.
The IDF Spokesperson's Unit announced later on Thursday that the IDF, Shin Bet and the undercover Border Police unit, YAMAS, assassinated Salameh in an operation in Jenin.
According to the IDF, Salameh was involved in shooting attacks targeting Israeli forces and was planning further attacks with the help of the Lion's Den terrorist group.
The Israeli forces additionally arrested five other suspects and seized two handguns and an M-16. No Israeli forces were injured in the operation.
Salama was reportedly set to be married on Saturday.
14 terrorism suspects arrested overnight
Overnight, Israeli security forces conducted other operations throughout the West Bank as part of Operation Break the Wave, arresting 14 wanted suspects.
In the village of Beit Duqqu, violent riots broke out and 42-year-old Daoud Khalil Rayyan was shot in the chest by troops after he threw a Molotov cocktail toward the force.
The attacker was identified as a relative of 54-year-old Habes Rayyan, who was killed by an IDF officer on Wednesday when he rammed the soldier with his car and then attempted to strike him with an axe.
