Purim ploy to sell alcohol to Israeli minors foiled by police

Some 52 people in Israel were hospitalized after excessive alcohol consumption since the start of the Purim on Monday night.

Four businesses were caught in central Tel Aviv selling alcohol to minors during the Purim celebrations, according to a Tuesday report from Israel Police. 

Some 52 people in Israel were hospitalized after excessive alcohol consumption since the start of the Purim on Monday night, according to Magen David Adom also reported on Tuesday. 

Israel Police catch illegal activity on Purim

Police officers and youth volunteers held a proactive enforcement operation on Monday evening, during which they caught a number of instances of illegal sale of alcohol to minors. 

The police detained four suspects for questioning and the business owners were summoned for a hearing as a part of the police investigation.

"The phenomenon of unsupervised alcohol consumption among minors is dangerous and has more than once led to tragic outcomes and serious violent incidents," read the police statement. "The Israel Police will use all means at its disposal to eradicate this phenomenon and protect the youth."
