UNITED NATIONS - European Union foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton said on Friday the Quartet had agreed on a statement calling for direct talks between Israel and the Palestinians to resume within one month and complete within one year.Ashton said the Quartet - the EU, the United Nations, the United States and Russia - had drawn up its statement after looking very carefully at the issues presented by both sides."We hope the parties will react positively," she told reporters at the United Nations.
