Avigdor Lieberman set to visit Africa for 8 days

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman's office announced he will be leaving Wednesday for an 8-day visit to Kenya, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda. Lieberman said his upcoming visit to Africa is aimed at developing ties and countering Iran's influence. The statement said the visit is aimed at improving relations with Africa, which it says have been "lacking for many years." Lieberman visited South America on a similar mission in July. The statement said Lieberman will meet African leaders and discuss Israeli concerns that Iran is "making efforts to establish itself in the region." Israel views Iran as a strategic threat because of its nuclear program, support of militant groups and references by its president to Israel's destruction.
