Barak calls on Ashton to retract 'outrageous' statement

Defense Minister Ehud Barak slammed on Tuesday comments by the EU's High Representative, Catherine Ashton, who compared the gunning down of Jewish schoolchildren in France to children killed in Gaza.

"The comparison drawn by Ashton between what is happening in Gaza, Toulouse, and Syria is outrageous and far from reality. The IDF operates with maximum caution in Gaza in order to prevent harm to innocents. I hope that the EU's foreign minister will quickly realize the mistake she made and withdraw her comments," Barak said.
