Bill on female representation in c'tees pre-approved

The Knesset on Wednesday approved in a preliminary reading a proposed bill which calls for adequate representation for women in governmental committees of inquiry.

According to the bill, which was approved by a majority of 56 members, women must constitute one-third of all members within such a committee.

"The law proposes what is obvious, that women must recieve equal representation in these committees," said Kadima MK Dalia Itzik who proposed the law. "Not including women in the committees transmits a message of discrimination and a wrong exclusion of women from positions of power."
