Boehner breaks off US debt limit talks with Obama

WASHINGTON - US House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner said on Friday he broke off negotiations with President Barack Obama on a debt limit increase and will start talks with Senate leaders.
In a letter to congressional colleagues, Boehner said he and the president could not reach agreement on a deficit reduction package and that the two "had different visions for our country."
With the Aug. 2 deadline approaching for Congress to increase the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling, Boehner said he would begin talks with Senate leaders to "in an effort to find a path forward."
