Bolton says warned Russian envoy against election meddling in 2018

GENEVA - US President Donald Trump's national security adviser said on Thursday that he warned his Russian counterpart against meddling in the US elections in November in talks that he said also covered a phased withdrawal of Iran's presence in Syria.

John Bolton, US national security adviser, speaking after holding talks in Geneva with Nikolai Patrushev, director of the Russian national security council, said that the issue of meddling had prevented a joint final statement by the two sides.

"I made it clear we wouldn't tolerate (election) meddling in 2018 and we were prepared to take necessary steps to prevent it from happening," Bolton told a news conference.
