Changing of the guard among green groups

Two major environmental organizations announced a switch in leadership this week. The Israel Union for Environmental Defense (IUED) announced that Deputy Director Amit Bracha would replace Tzipi Iser Itsik as the new executive director of the organization at the beginning of March.
Iser Itsik spent the past ten years at IUED, six of them as its head. She said Sunday she was looking into various options. IUED is the second-largest environmental organization in Israel after the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI).
Meanwhile, water-watchdog Zalul announced Monday that Executive Director Yariv Abramovich would be leaving after six years. Abramovich will assume a senior position abroad with the Atlantium company which focuses on water purification.
The announcements follow the recent election of Naor Yerushalmi to executive director of Life and Environment, the umbrella organization of environmental organizations in Israel. He replaced Alona Shefer-Karo who left to become Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan's chief of staff.
SPNI also recently switched directors, Avinoam Ben Yitzhak replacing Gershon Peleg.
