China says keeps faith in Annan peace plan for Syria

HAMMAMET, Tunisia - China's foreign minister said on Thursday his country was keeping faith with mediator Kofi Annan's peace plan for Syria, despite pressure for tougher action after the killing of over 100 people, including children, in the town of Houla.
"We continue to support Annan's efforts ... We knew from the beginning that his path would not be strewn with flowers," Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said at a news conference after an Arab-Chinese cooperation forum in Tunisia.
"We feel much pain and sadness over what happened in Houla," he said. "Annan's efforts are facing difficulties but no one can deny that they are making progress in some respects."
