Closure imminent for Channel 10

Channel 10 announced that it will dismiss all its employees on Saturday night, in advance of final closure of the channel at the end of the month.
The decision was taken after it emerged that the bill for extending the channel's franchise will not be raised for discussion at the ministerial legislation committee session on Sunday. If the legislation is not passed by the end of the year, the channel's franchise will expire, and it will shut down.
Earlier this month, Channel 10 chairman Avi Balashnikov wrote to Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein, saying, "We have reached the moment of truth. The channel's franchise will [shortly] end, unless it is extended by legislation.... Any further delay is liable to prevent the possibility of the franchise being extended, even at the procedural/technical level, and to lead to the channel's immediate closure."
