Court: City of David contract is illegal

The Jerusalem District Court ruled on Tuesday that the renewal of a contract by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority with the Ir David Foundation, which runs the City of David Archeology Park, was illegal.

The INPA failed to follow proper guidelines when renewing the contract and should have made the tender known to the public in order to allow outside groups to compete for a chance to run the site, Judge Nava Ben-Or said in her decision.

Left-wing NGO Ir Amim, which filed the petition, complained that although the City of David site is a national park, the area is run by Ir David, a private organization, and not by the INPA. It also believes that Ir David promotes Jewish history while ignoring Arab history.

The INPA has two months to appeal.
