Court freezes layoffs of 100 Sderot city employees

The Beersheba Labor Court froze the impending layoffs of approximately 100 of the Sderot municipality's employees on Wednesday. The municipality had planned on laying-off one-third of its staff in order to address budget problems.
The court also ordered the creation of a joint committee composed of labor and municipal management representatives as well as the deputy regional head of labor relations. The committee is due to begin meeting to resolve the dispute after the Passover holiday.
Municipal management has promised not to undertake any unilateral firings prior to the committee's creation.
