Court lessens rape-by-deceit sentence of Arab posing as Jew

The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled to lessen the sentence of Sabbar Kashur, an Arab who was convicted last year of rape by deception after posing as a single Jewish man seeking a serious romantic relationship, in order to convince a Jewish woman to have sex with him.
Kashur was sentenced to 18 months in prison as part of a plea bargain, but the Supreme Court ruled Thursday to cut his sentence by six to nine months.
The justices ruled that Kashur's crime was not serious enough to warrant the longer sentence and he had no other criminal past.
