Defense Ministry classifies Hebron shooting 'terror event'

The Defense Ministry informed the National Insurance Institute on Friday that the accidental shooting death of Rabbi Dan Mertzbach by an IDF soldier in the West Bank will be classified as a terror event.
The classification will allow the National Insurance Institute to provide welfare benefits to Mertzbach's family, as well as to the two other people injured in the incident.
The Defense Ministry generally reserves classifying incidents as terror events, when a terrorist has carried out an attack causing injury or death.
The soldier mistakenly shot at Mertzbach's vehicle, which failed to heed warnings to stop, believing his life was in danger, an initial IDF investigation found.
