Defense Ministry rejects Amos Gilad's comments on Egypt

The comments by Defense Ministry security and diplomacy chief Amos Gilad reflect neither the positions of the security establishment nor Gilad himself, the Defense Ministry said in a statement Friday night.
Gilad earlier in the day said that "There is no talking going on between (Israel's) and Egypt's political echelons, and I don't think there will be," and described the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood's rule as "a terrible dictatorship."
Rather, according to the ministry, Gilad's central themes were the strategic importance of upholding the peace treaty with Egypt along with maintaining good relations between the two countries.
Along with this, the ministry said, Gilad merely expressed concern over possible upheaval in the Middle East and had no intention of interfering with internal Egyptian politics.
